Caught Unawares
« on: April 12, 2018, 11:11:02 AM »

Over Easter weekend I had to change frequencies on my main wireless mic. I had been using 502.1 MHz for the last year with no problems. All of the sudden on the Thursday before Easter I had some issues but they stopped after a bit. Then on Friday it was completely unusuable: signal being received at max level. Re-scanned and picked a different freq for Easter Sunday and everything's been fine. Turns out WKYC in Cleveland, OH (channel 3/DTV 17) had been re-packed to 500-506 MHz. I had to do some serious Googling to determine this.

I haven't found a master list of all the TV channels that are being re-packed including their before/after freqs and when they are expected to change.

FYI I am in zip code 44811, which is at the far edge of WKYC's 50 mile coverage map. I can't pick up their OTA signal inside my house but my Sennheiser picks them up loud and clear!

http://radioactiverf.com/ has a T-Mobile deployment map.
There are also many good links at the top of this section.

I have been watching this part of the forum closely but the Cleveland/Toledo markets aren't covered in anything that I could find.

T-Mobile hasn't impacted us very much in Ohio, at least not like other states.

You don't mean the Sennheiser recovers the audio?  Anyway, WKYC is on UHF-19 now (FYI Channel 19 is on VHF 10)

uhf-19 IS 500-506 Mhz

Nothing but static on the Senn receiver (no audio), but it was maxing the signal indicator. WKYC still identifies themselves as channel 3.

Yes, but that doesn't matter..There is a protocol in ATSC called PSIP that controls the displayed channel.

Here is WKYC's license.

They are operating on their post re-pack authorization

Rabbitears has a great master list. It's been super helpful for our theater.

I'm also a fan of rabbitears.com, but they haven't updated their database since July 2017 (according to a location search that I ran yesterday). That's a problem now that stations have begun repacking.

The sound (and visual) of a strong DTV channel.
Thanks for the info, I'll be in Cleveland this summer. (with my trusty TTi)
