Hi guys, sorry to have disappeared...in recovery from a successful shoulder surgery ...in and out and doing well :)

Anyway, yes Jack at Assistance Audio handles the US DIY BMS biz.

Tim, no i didn't try any other drivers because i was a newbie kinda duping both the sealed and vented single sub 18n862 versions that Josh Ricci had on his site.
I wanted to try my own hand at design, learn hornresp, go a little larger and deeper than Josh's builds, but know i could make it all work.

Rolando, i just punched the 18tbx100 into hornresp to see how it would work...and it looks like a good substitute...heck, maybe better than the BMS !!!

Mark,
Sorry to hear about your shoulder
a truck of good vibes going your way :D
that is some good news
that you are feeling better!!

i just hanged up the phone with the recommended distributor the BMS is 700+
so  18TBX100 it is !!! it is 299 right now
so, with a pair of 18TBX100's
how many watts you need to feed them to maximize the drivers
i would choose 8ohm drivers and wire them in paralel to have a 4 ohm load to a bridged amp
that way sucking all possible power from the amp.

a 4k amp so to feed 2k to each driver
or a 2k one so 1k to each driver

also what are the recommended filter setting on the processor
30hz,35hz 24db BW or LR , HP can be 120hz as i will be using 10" tops :)

Watts?

Which produces more SPL, 1000 watts at 1 volt or 10 volts at 100 watts, and why?

It totally depends on the sensitivity of the loudspeaker.

The watts are the result of a voltage across a specific impedance/resistance.

Rolando,

The B&C TBX100 are rated for 2000 watts "continuous", 1000 watts "nominal" (A.E.S. rating).
They can easily take 2000+ watt peaks, (especially with clone amps, LOL) though long term you probably want to set limiters to about half the A.E.S. rating.

Mark's box appears to have an Fb of just below 30 Hz, so a BW24 at 25 Hz would work well.

Many thanks for the advice Art
now is matter of my "friend" to make up some time to cut some plywood
and me to put my old painters clothes on, PL is super messy i have read,
so nitrile gloves are a must

Do you recommend to put a grill or some cloth on the open front gap or
just leave the hole there

Hi Rolando,

What Art said, re amps and high pass filter.

But ease into that.  My design was to dig low, 30Hz f3, and has big ports to do so.
Excursion is greatest around 40Hz.
The bms i used has a 19mm xmax. The TBX100 9mm.
So excursion is going to be needed to approached a little more
carefully.
It's not a big deal, and frankly, given the $ difference, if i build any more it will be with the TBX100.
On initial testing, i'd just ease the juice up, and/or the hpf down a Hz at a time (i'd start BW4 at 30Hz) until i sense distress.

2nd thing, in addition to the sub's lpf, i think you said around 120Hz, you are also going to want to have an out-of-band EQ in place.
The plenum slot causes a resonance it helps to knock down.
Think of it as a preconditioning EQ prior to xover, even though it's really just part of the sub processing all done at the same time.
It's about a 6dB cut at about 150Hz. I forget the Q.
Can you make measurements?  If not, let me know and i'll find the exacts on what worked for my box.

A pict below shows maybe the first raw measurement i took, and the effect of 3 quick PEQs.
One biggie EQ for the peak around 150 Hz (a must).  One mild EQ at 30Hz (to get to my f3 design goal lol). And one really mild boost at 75Hz cause i'm anal.

I'd put a grill on.  The upward bowl of the lower driver is just begging to have something in it otherwise.

But this is the good part....all it takes is about a 20.5" x 12.5" rectangle grill.
What damn double 18" gets away with that? And without rattles !!!  (Grilles are the bane of DIY subs imo)

Build the plenum section as a standalone box. Then mount it on the main box side walls, recessed 1/4" from the front edge.
That will start the recessed frame for flush mounting the simple rectangular plate.

Ok, if we are talking from a single amplifier, i think i know which one....

Definitely 1000 watts at 1 volt.

Cause that means 1000 amperes, and tell me that didn't  grenade  ;D
