The R is more flexible in my opinion in that while there are fewer faders you aren’t stuck looking at 1-16 or 17-32.  You can look at 1-8 and 17-24 or any other combination of banks of 8.

We have a couple R’s.  There was a good deal of discussion about the full or R variant amongst my staff and some demo time.  Everyone is happy with the R.

We have an R, a full M32 and four x32 racks.  Having the choice has worked out well for us.  I really like the M series.  We got rid of our x32 and x32c a couple months after purchasing them.  In retrospect I wish I had kept the full size x32 for monitors.

These are all great observations I shall deliberate upon. Of course, I could always start out with one and add the other later  ;)

I forgot to mention - most of my work lately requires that I mix from side of stage; I can't put the mixer out front (bars, weddings, private events). I'll probably be using the M32 MixApp 75% of the time. The larger format, though nice, might not see much benefit unless the composition of my work skews back toward events where I can place the mixer out in the audience area.

Based on that the answer is easy...get the M32r.  Great sound and small space.  If you don't need a surface get the X32 rack and add DL32 and now you have a M32 in a rack.

Get the full size if you expect BE's.
