Lectern Mics

What is everyone using for lectern mics these days? We stock the Shure variety, but looking to see if there is anything better out there?

I'm still getting excellent results out of my Earthworks Flex Mic series hypercardioids.

I have the newer A3 series Countryman in cardioid and a DPA SC4098 super cardioid. Both sound good though I find myself using the Countryman more often if not for anything else but the cardioid pick up to give those people who are clueless about speaking into a mic a little more room to stay somewhat in the pick up pattern.

An AKG 535 also works very well as a podium mic, I use one with a Neutrik XLR gooseneck, just not as sleek looking as a mini gooseneck.

We recently did a consultation at a church where they were having problems with their system. They had two stationary lecterns, each with an AKG GN50E with the CK80 capsule. These required a fair amount of eq to get the necessary gain before feedback. They had a third lectern that they would occasionally bring out that had a Sennheiser MZH3072 with an ME36 capsule, which is actually specified as a shotgun capsule. I'm sure that's why this unit BLEW AWAY the akg with respect to gbf. Frankly, it sounded better, too.  I moved the Sennheiser unit to the primary position and recommended that they buy two more of them. FWIW, we stock Shure MX418 in our rental inventory, which work well enough for the price.

Out of curiosity I looked up the Sennheiser mic and gooseneck. What did you feel the pick up patteren of the ME36 capsule was, I found some places call it a hypercardioid and others calling it a supercardioid, even on the Sennheiser site it!

Still my favorite. Good cardioid PU pattern, outstanding audio quality, great GBF, very low handling noise.
