Am I going crazy? CL5 and post fade aux sends
« on: February 15, 2018, 08:19:29 PM »

Trying to get an opera up and running. Usually I send the pit orchestra to the fold back monitors on stage as post fade sends.

I've got the orchestra mics set up to feed the 6 aux sends to the stage as post fade, but not assigned to the main Stereo output, so they don't go to the house and I set them up as post fade so I can just mix them to the stage like I would the mains on a normal show.

For whatever reason, the orchestra mics will only feed the stage monitors when I set them to prefade sends.

Am I missing something here? Is this a bug of some sort that I missed?

The only thing I can think is that something weird is going on because I have the 6 stage foldback monitors assigned to DCA8, but that shouldn't make a different for post fade sends from input channels, right?

This is the way I usually run stage foldback for operas and I've done it this way many times, so...surely I'm either going crazy or I missed something, right?

God damn it.

Never mind. I am going crazy.

I forgot that I had the orchestra mics assigned to a different DCA also, which was down.

There’s yer problem...

I will say that one of the things I like about Yamaha is that if something truly weird is happening, there’s a strong possibility that it is my fault...

Yep. I knew I had to be loosing my mind. I've done this set up probably a hundred times. But this time I added the extra orchestra DCA group because we're doing this sort of pop-opera/rock and roll gala thing for this one show and I need to sneak in the orchestra to the house for a couple numbers.

And after working all day getting a hundred other last minute additions set up, I forgot that I added the extra DCA group two days ago when we did the initial load-in.

I'm in the final push of a hard three week straight run and I think I'm about to loose it.  :o

So many routing possibilities, so little time.

I would find that it's hard to GO crazy, since I'm typically already there.... ;)

I was driven crazy, but it was a very short trip...

That's happened to me too many times. But never on analog boards where the DCA section was always visible. It's a digital thing.

Maybe I'm crazier than you but I remember getting totally messed up with the early Soundcraft programmable mute system and DCA assignments of the sort on the K3 etc

I find that possibility to be 100%.  :)

We all do it! If I ever have one of those moments where logic is not happening I always check now for that fader down or insert off scenario, had it with reverb also on a DCA down after I checked everything else of course! Always better when it's simple OE! (I refer to mine as technical DM issues...

As I was reading your OP, "DCA" was going through my mind. Mostly because I've done that a few times in the past. Glad you figured it out.

Got the t-shirt.

I've got a few of these.

The older ones have a V neck, not a D neck.  But the idea is the same....
