How do I hook up a speaker with 70v.. total newbie here.
« on: January 27, 2018, 02:03:49 PM »

How do hook this speaker up..    com to t1 and 75v to t2?
Googling brought me hear...
totally new to this bigger stuff.. thank you.

End game - a large vintage speaker to create the look and sound as seen/heard on Mash - for a vintage camper rally..
I've found a large speaker with an ElectroVoice 1828T driver on it..   (30) watt.  There are two posts for wires...  one labeled T1 and T2.
Picked up a  Pyle PCM21BT Compact Power Amplifier.
On the back of the of the amp the connections are - com 8(ohm) 25v and 75v
Picked up a roll of 12 gauge 50ft. wire.
Looked up a spec sheet on the 1828T.
Directions for the amp - say that one or more speakers can be connected to the amplifier with or without transformers, However, before you connect any speakers to the amplifier, the total impedance must be calculated in order to avoid damage to the amplifier..
I'm only hooking the one speaker up...   Do I really run a risk of damage?
Does the com go to t1 and the 25v or 75 go to T2 .        They are not marked + or -
Is that wire ok?
Thank you...

Thank you for the name thing..  I changed it...  I did see that in the reading - but thought I'd be presented with a spot to add that - guess username is the same..   Any way... thank you....   I hope someone does - don't want to trash anything but hooking up something in reverse...    Have a great day.  cheers.

Here is a link to the spec sheet

You hook it up to the amp using the common  (T1) and either the 25V or 70V output (T2).

THere is a little window on the driver that you remove to change the tapping of the transformer.

So which particular output on the amp will depend on how it is wired, or how you want it to be wired.

You wire will be fine

It is not so much a matter of where the tap inside the driver is, but RATHER, what do you want it to be?

There are several reasons for different taps.

How long is the cable run?  What is the total load on the amplifier?  What is the size of the amp?  And by the amp power, I am not talking about the specs, but rather the REAL power available.  That might be a question.
