10" Powered Stage Monitor Recommendations?
« on: January 15, 2018, 12:14:55 PM »

Hi all! Could I ask you all for some help?
I'm looking for 10" wedges.

We have 6 band members, so my goal is to have decent sounding monitors that have a reasonably small footprint. My current rig is:
JBL SRX815P mains, JBL PRX818 sub, A&H QU16 mixer.

I'm considering the following models. This should give you an idea about my price range.
QSC K10.2
Yamaha DXR10
EV ELX200-10P
Turbosound IQ10

Does anybody have experience with these models, or additional recommendations?
Thanks!
Scott

I own three of the iq10's and I'm very pleased with them, good sound and solid. But another thread here just gave us this link that seems hard to beat for the price:

I use DXR10's as well as PRX712's as wedges and those DXR's are hard to beat at their price point. I used to have the QSC K10 v1 and I sold them because they didn't match up to the Yamahas especially when pushed. Unsure whether the v2 would stand up better - haven't heard one yet but folks have said they are definitely superior to the old series.
Had some ELX12's at one point and they were surprisingly good for the money so I am sure the ELX200 would be a good choice too.
If the IQ10's are even close to the sound quality and performance of their brother IQ18 - which I do own - then I think you would be hard pressed to pick from the pack as I would say they are all good choices.

I agree - bad wedge angle but easily fixed with a piece of 2x4 at that price !!

I have 4 Yamaha DXR10 for monitors.
Dead reliable, loud, decent sound, regular compliments.

Another +1 for DXR10. Compact, light, look great, sound even better.

EDIT: I will say, though, they don't really do much below 80Hz.

I use one of mine regularly as a monitor for the one player on stage who doesn't use iems and I have to use low cut or he says there is too much low end...... I suppose like everything else, its all relative and personal taste.

The Turbosound M10 is a good budget conscious choice.

I do agree they seem to have a bit of a hyped low-mid, probably to make the box sound "bigger" than it is.

EDIT: But if you've got a player that wants lots of kick, bass guitar, tracks, whatever in their wedge there will be limitations down low. In these situations I have no reservations just saying to musician "hey I'll sneak in what I can, but just know these are compact monitors with limited "balls."

And they usually respond, "oh, okay, thanks!"

A couple of other options to consider:
DB Technologies FM10
Alto SXM112A

As with most small monitors, bass response is limited but they sound good in the rated frequency range. These are both coaxial which has advantages for monitor wedge use especially.
