Higher end RCF, Jbl or...
« on: January 12, 2018, 09:45:31 AM »

Hi everyone.

I know there are so many good speakers out there and many opinions.  I sold some of my qsc kw off and would really like to upgrade to something professional for my small system.  50-200 indoors.  Music from bluegrass, folk rock, rock, jazz, and dance bands.  Nothing crazy.  Pole mountable would be nice.  The full size vp poses that small hiccup but I could search for the pole mount or have something fabricated.

I have been looking hard at some jbl vp and rcf TT; the vp7212/dp, 7215/95dpc (compact), and the RCF tt22a-ii.  I've read reviews and almost all have been nothing but high praise.

Has anyone heard either or been able to compare?

From the more experienced members, is there anything else you could recommend in $1,500 - $2,500 max range that I am overlooking?

The fulcrum and kv2 stuff look great but look a little out of my range.  I can get either of the vp for a decent price, roughly what the tt are going for.

I am just looking for something top notch.  Tired of the MI grade stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

I’d go with the RCF hands down. The TT range is excellent

The JBL SRX line destroys QSC KW series.
For the room size you're talking about, I don't think you could do better in that price range.

Bias alert: I own a pair of SRX815Ps.

I'm very happy with them.

I have the 835p and they are really nice.  I have been contemplating the srx 812p as well but if the tt22a and vp are sound a lot better I want go in that direction.

I considered the 835P until I saw a pair up close. OMG they are HUGE. Way more than I was gonna need. They sound amazing though. I played the House of Blues Foundation Room, and they filled that room beautifully.

They have a fairly narrow coverage area (can't remember the actual numbers). I went with my 815Ps because of the size and wider 90° coverage area.

The KV2 EX12 was a nice speaker, 13 years ago. I don't think they were ever updated. I think there are better options today, for the same money, or less.

Despite what I'm about to say, I'm an RCF guy and currently own 7 cabinets.

If you're in the USA, consider your need for support and repair. I'm not talking efficiency of repair, but if you can EVER get repair on some of their products. I have many examples of train-wreck experiences over the years. Through the aid of a few bright lights I've been able to get what I've needed, but it was painful.

Note too, they change their products frequently and may not stock legacy parts for as long as you'll want to keep your cabinets. I've run across this more than once. Diaphragms for the 522A were only available used 3 years ago. They actually sent me 2 complete compression horns and I had to harvest the diaphragms. Also, the amp module for the 522A is no longer available. I happen to have a new one for sale on Ebay (long story about multiple repairs that netted me an extra amp).

From what I understand their service network is stronger in Europe where the brand is more prominent.
