Ambient noise sensing mic
« on: December 28, 2017, 03:20:34 PM »

Does anyone have recommendations for a good choice of sensing microphone for ambient noise compensation, (AKA automatic gain control)? If not a make model, at least a general recommendation as to what pattern someone should be using to best detect crowd noise and reject the sound system itself as part of the signal it is detecting.

I know this stuff can be tricky, and the placement is a critical part of the equation, but the choice of microphone would seem every bit as important as anything else. This question comes up again and again, and it would be great to have an answer ready, based upon real world experience.

Many thanks!

For what purpose?  IEM?  Distributed audio?  Arena installed system? None of the above?
