Sennheiser ASA1 w/ A1 Band G3's
« on: December 22, 2017, 02:15:12 PM »

Hey All,

While reading up on the ASA1 and trying to develop an RF design for a show I'm working on I came across the following on the spec sheet:

Frequency Range: 500 - 870MHz @ -3dB

Does this mean the unit is not suitable for systems containing EW G3 receivers in the A1 range that spans 470 - 516MHz??

Might not. Call them and ask?

Or a quick look at a spectrum analyzer comparing below and above 500MHz, or even looking at the signal strength indicator on the receive pack.

Have used RF Venue Distro4 w/ G3 A Band succesfully FWIW.  Won't power the receievers via BNC like the ASA1 will, but it does have 12v DC outs (and comes with the barrel to barrel cables) ... also it has an internal power supply & takes IEC power cable which is a huge plus.  Not sure if youve worked with the ASA1 before but it has a massive power brick which can be a PITA inside a rack.

I believe the units are priced very similarly and the RF Venue actually has a 5th output you can use to cascade distros or just as a 5th output.

Page 21 of the instruction manual in your link, under specifications states

ASA 1:   470 to 870 MHz at –3 dB

Interesting..! I wonder if it is a typo on the product page's technical specs in that case.. I'll message Sennheiser and see what they say as another poster suggested, too. Thanks for the help, everyone!

They did something similar with the A2003 antenna - the original specs for for something like 470-806MHz, then they revised the specs wider when they started selling gear a little outside that range. Turns out the antenna had that wider range to begin with, but maybe nobody told the tech writers?

Heard back from Sennheiser - sounds like the ASA1 does support 470 - 870MHz:

Thank you for contacting Sennheiser Technical Support.

The operating range is 470-870 MHz.  The ASA 1 will support the full range.

Thanks, and have a good afternoon.
