Why are coax splitters so expensive?
« on: December 02, 2017, 09:49:54 PM »

Shure's set goes for $100+ and it seems like Sennheiser has one that goes for even more? You can buy coax splitters with 3db loss that work in the entire UHF spectrum for a few bucks each.  The Shure/Senn products don't claim any better.  Is this just a sucker upsell for Shure/Senn or is their product actually better?

Well the Shure one..UA221?...does come with some male-male bnc adapters and jumper cables so all you need is in the box.
There is some circuitry in there to properly load the ports.

Also remember that there is a DC bias voltage on the antenna line.  Cheap splitters may not be able to handle that for you correctly.

Use one of those $9 splitters in Dallas or Chicago or even downtown Wichita, KS and tell me how things went for you and all the other users in a 500' radius.

This post belongs in the Wireless and Comms forum, too.
