The other reason to get the barbell handle - it gives you a place to hang a mic cable (and guitarists will hang their 1/4" cable there, too).  Although most of the time I'm at FOH, I'll help build mic stands with mics and cables and it's nice to send out the whole thing in 1 step.

I prefer the wingnut because I have found often the round plastic ends of the barbell often break then it comes off and is lost.

I recall once seeing someone had put threaded inserts into dice to replace those ends (and to look killer, too).

I really like 210/4 and 233+211 boom arms on small stages where space is important.
25950 is also nice for kick drums.

The wingnuts don't seem to last as long as the barbell before the threads gall.

Stainless steel acorn nuts won't break, better replacement than the threaded plastic balls, though they are not black..

Any opinion on the one-handed stands (26085)?

Seems like they would work well for the award presentation type things where several speakers are cycling through on stage.

I find it hard enough to get most people to adjust a goose neck podium mic let alone squeeze a grip release on a mic stand and adjust the height.

As for the barbell knobs, you can get them as a replacement item.
I'm about to order some to convert some wing nuts to barbells.

Maybe someday Doug Fleenor will make a DMX mic stand.  (Then again there would be complaints....No, I want Dante!)

That is really cool, is it the Oscar's or the Emmy's where they have crew moving it up and down and the stand just pokes through the stage.  It's fun to watch the operators, they overshoot sometimes.

Yes, because heaven forbid that anyone - overpaid and over-hyped "celebrities" or preachers - should have to lower themselves to touch a mic stand... or to endure the shame of a lowly stagehand or volunteer adjusting it for them.

Some years ago I saw an ad for a remote control stand for the recording studio market.

A quick search for remote controlled mic stands found these three concepts of remotely controlling a mic stand.
