I have the exact system you are asking about. I can typically run the 815's over the 818's, 4 Yamaha DSR wedges, the backline and an LED light system on one 20 amp receptacle.

Last night however, I experience my first in-show shutdown. The problem was a Furman power strip that was the first in line of a few. It shut down  during a very low synth note that I had cranked. I switch the power strip back on and the pa came back to life with no issues. I found another receptacle and moved one of my subs to that for the remainder of the show. From now on, I'm going to run to 2 receptacles with an even split for the load. I run my SRX pa to the max, limiters engaging on the subs. I did not notice any drop in performance befor the power strip shut off.

Mind you, I'm a weekender and hardly ever go to this Classic forum. I know very little about AC power. I have a PRX system 15's combo over single 18 sub, and I've never had a power issue with mains, monitors, lights and back line on a household circuit. But the SRX is louder, better, lower and certainly draws more power.

BTW, the system you are considering is a real joy to use. I had fantastic sound last night, with customers going out of their way to congratulate me. Additionally the band members told me their friends were blown away by how good it sounded (it's a good sounding room). There was also another band there and they can't wait to hire me for their upcoming gig at the club. I'm also earning closer to pro level pay with this rig, which is nice.

The SRX rig has very good internal processing. Run it on the recommended settings, and then adjust you top volume to taste (run the subs wide open). I've settled on the tops being turned down to +5.5 for a good balance. I mixed a Bad Company, and a Heart tribute band at a south Seattle casino club last night, and except for the power outage it was a huge success.

One word of caution, those tops are fucking heavy and hard to get up on the poles. I hope your back is good. I use the K&M poles with the expanding mandrel, and they are barely adequate.

Hi Steve-

The cumulative load over time tripped the breaker on that first-in-line Furman.  I think you'd be better off running another extension cord to the same outlet (less voltage drop) and not using a power strip to power other power strips.

I had a guy like Steve rented 4 subs and two tops from me.  I ran by the gig to see how they were doing and the whole thing was plugged into an orange 14ga   extension cord as hot as a fire cracker.

An extension cord of sufficient size is the caveat.  Safe, 12 ga soow with quality plugs and receptacles.

The key is breakers are thermal (not saying this for Tim's benefit) and with low crest factor material they can supply, I would guess, 30a for a good two or three measures of a sustained 40hz waveform.  A few more measures and they cool off.

I think using one branch circuit is risky.  Don't forget multiple outlets can be fed off one branch and you really have no way of knowing.

The good news is as soon as you are out of the bars the venues will have dedicated production power

Josh how big was the generator?

It was a large diesel that had 3ph output going to a spider box. It was from a respected rental company here. It's job was running the refrigeration for the beer trucks and kitchen plus my loads. I metered before I connected and everything was good including the frequency.

Thanks to both Scott & Tim for the input. I'm still learning about power and working on sorting this out. For the remainder of my night I had each sub plugged directly into it's own outlet - no power strips or even extension cords. This worked fine, but I think I also need to get away from daisy-chaining my power strips. I'm used to my PRX system that just worked everywhere, on a single receptacle.

You should never Daisy chain power strips.  In fact you should not even use them.  The breakers on them are a failure point, inadvertantly hitting the power switch another.  The components in them are a source of failure and they  don't provide any meaningful protection.

If the outlets aren't labeled how do you k now they re not on the same circuit?

You should have proper safe soow cables with a quad box on one end.  Outlets should always be tested before connecting equipment.  The power forum here on Pro Sound web is an incredible resource.

You are running by the seat of your pants and it is going to bite you eventually.

Just an update; I'm realizing I need a quality stage stringer which is in the works. I did another show at this venue, and plugged my subs directly into their own outlet on each side. There are four outlets, 2 per side, each on their own separate 20 amp breaker. I still used my power strips for back-line & our LED lights. The night went perfectly with no power losses. There were no ground loops thankfully. I drove the system very hard, and we had twice the lights. Looking forward to having a nice stage stringer, perhaps 2 for future shows.

You might consider squid type splitters.

Careful examination of these shows they're constructed of SJT cable.  Doesn't meet code for portable stage uses. Also, 16 gauge wire is a bit on the puny side. Use at your own risk.
