Play some music through the speaker, turn it up to the loudest volume I would ever want out to use, then measure the voltage across the tweeter and put an amp meter on one of the lines to the tweeter.
nope music is a very complex signal not like a sine wave e.t.c and an amp meter won't give you true reading...sorry.

As has been shared already the failure mechanism is not simple peak voltage, so a voltage limiter (like a zener diode clamp) will not be the right tool for the job.

Yep.

Anyone that doesn't have access to the schematics and DSP design of this speaker could have good intentions, but either permanently break your speaker, or leave it sounding very bad.
