I'm very new to the world of DMX and i'm having difficulty figuring out the benefits of the Enttec Pro MK2's standalone feature. Is this feature beneficial to other setups and applications other than controlling midi triggered lighting software sequences in a live DAW?

I like the idea of having less programs running on an on-stage computer. What am I missing? Don't you still need to connect the Pro MK2 to your computer so it will pull up your lighting sequences? Or would you use the midi out from the MK2 into the mixer?
