Why was this thread locked?
« on: September 29, 2017, 02:27:55 PM »

http://forums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/topic,165004.msg1520597/topicseen.html#new

There are quite a few members that use the combined firstandlastname with no space log-in, and their posts were not called out for forum rule breakage.  To me it looked like tonyinoz is Tony Inoz.

Or equally possible:  Tony in Oz, Oz being Australia

Or, "Tony In Oz," ("Oz" is sometimes slang for Australia) -- and that *would* be in violation.

For general knowledge, as far as I am aware, if someone has a name that appears to be possibly violating the rules, they can provide proof via PM to a moderator. (Every once in awhile, someone asks why Cosmo is allowed to post... and it's because his Real, Full Name is just that, Cosmo, and it's been verified by the moderator team.)

I do always suggest to people (In cases where their Display Name does not appear overtly wrong, and *could* be legit, but it's not *immediately* clear) that adding spaces/capitalization to clarify is a great idea.

That all being said, I am not a moderator. :)

Same for those that add numbers to their name (and not because it was taken).  What proof is there that I am using my real name?

I used Debbie Dunkley because I didn't feel that anyone would believe my real name of "Pink Lady Audio Marmite"

The first clue is if your email address is like mine (first and last names @ domain) it's fairly easy to question legitimacy if the display name is different.  Likewise, if someone uses a number with their name, the mods can look to see if there is another user with the same real name and the numbers are used to differentiate or it's just made up.

Mods will email users with suspected phony names and give them the chance to fix the problem.  They also have other tools available to detect spammers and phonies.

You might want to PM Mac or Fowler or another Mod if you have specific questions about a specific user or post.

The easiest way is to use the "Report Post To Moderator" link on every post. On the flip side, if you see a post in one of the lesser-popular sub-forums remain locked after a couple of days since the OP updates their name, chances are they've not been to that sub-forum recently. So, same deal, feel free to use that link "Hey, looks like the name's been updated" and they'll unlock the thread.

I've seen a couple where the Display Name looks legit, but then they sign off the post "something else." Whoooooooops! Reported.

There's a DJ in New Zealand called Justin Sane.   His real first name is Justin, though.
