Peavey CS800s Only One Channel Active...
« on: July 06, 2019, 04:09:28 PM »

Hi!
Thank you in advance for any help that is offered. I just signed up on ProSound so I'm new to your forum
My question/issue is with a older Peavey CS800s amp
It was owned by a church and basically I got it for a pretty good deal. It was going to be a back-up amp.
The problem is that when I power it up, the amp immediately goes to high fan, the DDT lights blink (like they should I think) and only the B channel is lit and/or active...
After spending a couple hours searching on google, all I could find was a guy talking about replacing the "thermsistor" when he had the same issue with the same amp.
Is there any suggestions I should follow to repair this amp other than use it as a doorstop?
Thanks!

I was the product manager over all power amps at Peavey when the CS800s was introduced. It is in fact a decent amp...

While the memories are a little painful there was an issue with a thermistor**** going through a hole drilled in the heatsink to sense temperature that was a little too fragile and inclined to fracture. The amp thinks it is over heating, when the thermistor is broken and open circuit.

#1 contact Peavey Service... They are surely familiar all the likely suspects. It is a relatively simple repair and IMO the amp is quite respectable when working properly, albeit a little puny at only 240W @ 8 Ohm.

Good luck

JR

*** the sad story is the thermistor vendor had just moved their manufacturing of that part to China. The samples they submitted to purchasing/engineering to approve all worked perfectly... It was only after the amp reached full production that the sierra hit the fan. I still have scars from that, but those scars have plenty of company.  ::)

Hey John!
Thank you so much for all the help!
I also really appreciate you giving me the advice I need for this amp.
I am 99.9% sure that is more than likely the issue...
I will source out the part and post back when the repair is made  :)

Mike;
Should you need help down the line, I'm a Peavey Service center and done a lot of work on all the Peavey equipment in the last 20 years (no reflection on Peavey, John! - I've done a LOT more on other MI's gear!).

I'm still beating up some old CS800 cast face amps in a rehearsal space and they just won't quit. :)
