Then again, some would say that environmentalism is a religion...  :-X

I just got a folding bike that I can take on the bus with me one way (avoid a big hillclimb) and ride home. Fits under my desk at my day job. Saves 10-20 min out of my 1.5 hour NJ/NYC commute each way (bus, subway and walk, now just bus and bike or bike only). Good folding bikes can be expensive but it saves $5.50-$9.75 RT every day, should pay for itself in a couple years. Good for physical and mental fitness as long as I avoid crashes. Downsides: need to be superdefensive riding in NYC rush hour traffic, bad for the rain, ice or snow, need to ride to work easy on hot days to avoid sweating too much, but most days 8 months out of the year it works well. Hard to carry the subwoofer, though.
