That hole position does look odd compared to what I am used to but EV made the speaker to be used that way, so it must be 'safe'. However, its probably a bit like the QSC pole height issue. QSC put into their literature not to use certain tops with certain pole lengths due to instability- especially when using  K subs.
I could see these EV tops being fine with 18" chunky subs.

Well, I own Yamaha DXR10's and I LOVE them. Disclaimer - I have only used them as monitors but the sound quality sounds good to me - no suck out -in that mid region. I prefer my DSR112's for exactly that reason BUT I realize you only want 10's. i think the DXR would be a good option for you.
Think QSC K10 (mk1) but much better - richer, warmer, louder IMHO.

I ordered the DXR10 today.

The high-pass filter, and positive experiences by others, cliched the deal.

BTW, MF has a 15% coupon today in addition to Yamaha's $50 rebate.

Thanks All!

I think you'll be very happy Dennis. DXR's ROCK!
I just picked up a DXR8. I wanted a 'mini me' version of my DXR10's for those very small stages and to have something in the house that I don't have to pull out of the trailer. Even the DXR8 sounds fantastic with stupid good low end for an 8" speaker.

I think you'll be very happy...

Got the DXR10, and I am very pleased.  The voicing is not quite as crisp at the high end as the ZXA1, but playback (Square and Contra Dance backing tracks) is very powerful, yet easy on the ears.  I fixed the clarity of my voice with an EV N/D767a.

The DXR10 will go way louder than I ever want to go, with no sign of strain, and mates well with the ZXA1-Sub when set at 100hz.

I turned the whole cart 90 degrees, as I mostly stand next to it when calling.

<edit>  I also got a Stagg SPB-10 carry bag.  The DXR10 fits just fine.

Thanks again,
Dennis
