anybody heard Meyer LINA ?
« on: July 05, 2017, 01:31:25 PM »

Hi everyone, long time lurker, first-time poster...

I'm curious if anyone on the forum has any experience with the Meyer LINA boxes?

I'm just looking for opinions on them.
Thanks!

Wyatt

Yes, I have heard it. I had mixed feelings about it, due largely to the way it was demoed by the Meyer staff, I think.

My opinions and experience from the demo at Infocomm Orlando this year pretty much match Justice's review.
My opinions are as a regular listener, I don't run rigs of this size or caliber and I am not a sound engineer. My initial opinion was that it was a lot of boxes that didn't even cover the complete theater (what they said) and it was very harsh to my ears at higher levels. I had to leave halfway through the ground stack demo, it was just too harsh and loud on my ears and I am someone who likes it loud (and has hearing loss). I originally thought I would be way more impressed going into the demo. As Justice said, it could easily just be that particular setup or deployment. More subs would have definitely balanced out the highs a bit.

They're not bad for a line array.  The compact ones like that aren't generally as good sounding to me.  The more boxes there are, the more lobing that happens. I would rather have one Danley SH96 per side than 8 of those per side.  Shoot, you can get 2 Danley J3's even for cheaper than that line array and the J3 is nearly a 150dB cabinet.  One box per side.  Done.  I like the SH96 speakers with the BC415 subs.  I use them multiple times a week and nothing is better in my opinion.  If you don't want to use subs, get J1 speakers and you won't need any.

I'll never forgot the Meyer demo from the 2015 Infocomm show. They were showing off the new Leopard line (I think it was those). I had just been blown away in the Danley room, and proceeded to talk to those down to earth southern boys for a bit. Then also was super impressed with Martin MLA. Then went into the Meyer room and it was all black and everyone was wearing black turtlenecks and the room was all listening kiosks and in general just had a feel more like an Apple Store backstage edition. Then some hyped intro, a bunch of crazy EDM tracks that sounded terrible and gave no indicator of the what the music sounded like, then "Leopard....." with a loud whisper. It was so unimpressive and frankly off putting.

I'm trying to get a demo set up. Will probably be August if it happens.

Expect to hear a bunch of classical music, symphonies and operas, and jazz. I'm going to give them specific instructions that I don't want to hear any Infected Mushroom during this demo.

Will they still come?
