(Noob Question) - Connecting antennas...
« on: June 30, 2017, 08:13:25 AM »

I'll start by saying I've never really messed with wireless mics ever.
However, I borrowed a wireless Audio Technica setup to use for a show coming up the day after tomorrow, and I've gotten very confused in regards to how I'm supposed to connect the antennas, receivers & distributor.
The setup consists of:
- Two ATW-R3100 Receivers
- One ATW-DA49 Distribution Amp
- Two 3000 series condenser handhelds

When I received it, it had last been set up & used by a well respected local soundguy and was wired up like this:

I was under the impression, however, that Diversity receivers need to be wired up like this:

I also remember reading somewhere that antenna amplifiers can break if you don't have an antenna plugged in. Is that true? Which waυ should I connect them all?

Sorry for asking such a stupid question, the manual isn't horribly clear  :-\

The first diagram is wrong and maybe that person should not get involved in RF work.
The second diagram is correct.
If you follow the signal path, each of the 2 antennas is available to each receiver.
Remember to get the antennas up in the air for a line of sight to the transmitters.

Tbh I don't think he uses wireless mics frequently either, I can't blame him :P
The antennas will probably end up behind a curtain, on top of an amprack, just a few meters away from the performer, with no other obstacles in between. Do you think it's going to be a problem?

Thank you both  :D

Perhaps this 'respected sound guy' ran out of bnc cables? Benefit of the doubt?
