Foam backing for speaker grilles needed
« on: June 30, 2017, 11:57:52 AM »

I need to replace the foam backing on assorted speakers but my go to air handler vendor no longer has the 1/8" stuff and can't order a single roll.  Can anyone suggest a vendor for this foam?

I haven't seen any 1/8" but Reliable Hardware has the 1/4. Parts Express carries the 3/8.

If 1/4" is okay, you can just use air conditioning filter foam .

Roll contact cement onto the grille.  Foam roller won't last too long but won't bridge the holes either.

Dry Fast Reticulated Foam
a basic internet search will give you lots of options for this stuff, we have used it before in the higher spores per inch configuration, even use it to cut air filters for our pa amps, etc.

is an example of some 30 spore per inch, sort of medium count stuff, also I have purchased some from this ebay site

1/2 inch stuff I use for 4719 jbls which improve the looks and help with the weather, as this foam is designed to be water shedding insulation material.
Hope maybe this helps.

Speaker/filter foam from the Foam Factory in the Detroit area.  They also carry case foam, acoustic foam, and much more.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.(tm) ;>)

I've used the 1/4" "filter and speaker" foam from Foam Factory (aka Foam By Mail) successfully as well. Glued on the inside with Super 77 adhesive.
