I am so ashamed. My neighbors are avoiding me, my dog won't eat, and my wife and daughters have been crying since the package arrived. I told them it's just some faders and buttons for the Cubase system, no preamps, not a mixer at all, but they won't listen.

This morning I went outside and found a giant ear spray painted in black on the side of the house. The police said it's a hate crime, and the insurance won't pay saying I brought this on myself.
Sorry about the ear tagging, but you asked for it....

I may have to send this thing back. Today, just before leaving for work (nights this week, 4pm to 8am) one of my neighbors came over to the house. He told me he had seen the band, watched me work sound from afar, and admired my system. He said the news north of Boston was that I had bought a Behringer X Touch. I explained that it filled the bill for the basement studio, was cheap, and if I put more time on it and didn't like it I could still send it back. He then slapped me in the face, told me to send it back, called me a traitor, and then just walked away.

Good thing I'm working nights this week. I can't sleep anyway.

Unbeleivable - next thing you'll be saying something unflattering about JBL and the transition will be complete.

Shame on you. I just bought new JBL monitors for the system as well. Keep that up and one of the many weird creatures down there is going to bite you on the balls.

They even appear to be making extenders to the X-TOUCH , designs were teased for both a  single fader unit (X-TOUCH ONE) and the extender and the extender has now appeared on their website, no ship date though. Has USB and Ethernet for RTP-MIDI and a 2 port USB hub.

All you need to do now is get an X-AIR mixer and use the X-TOUCH as a control surface.

That's what I am doing.  It works well.

Is that extender to give extra channels so there is not so much bank changing required?

Steve.

The specs seem to indicate (at least to my reading) that it is not an expansion for the xtouch but also standalone.  In that case it is the perfect fader wing.

Scott,
I'll admit it's a pretty neat system for the money. The initial intention was for use with the Xair product line, whatever that is. You can use the USB port to extend the channel strip, which previous to the product on the way was done using an Xtouch, or Xtouch compact, and all of those are stand alone as well. Neither have scribble strips, so the new offering is very much like that being offered by Mackie, a mate that looks correct in every way.

The problem with any of these control surfaces is that none of them fully emulate the DAW software controls. They support the Mackie protocol or HUI, Mackie being dominant. We'll see, and if it works for more than a month I'll shocked.

I have to go now. There are people on my front lawn with torches and pitch forks.

I wouldn't worry about that too much, they could just be some local zombies.  Now if they had a vat of tar and bags of feathers I would start worrying.

Behringer's version of the Soundcraft UI mixers.
