Hi Debbie,

I have only cursory experience with the Qu series mixers, but have quite a bit of time on the X32 and a bit on the XR mixers.

I haven't heard any noise issues with any of the mixers.  I have seen several people who have actually put up measurements on all of these mixers and the S/N ratio has been superb on all of them .... which validates what my ears have heard as well (the older Ui series mixers not so much).

What I would be interested in hearing is your thoughts on the overall processing of the XR vs Qu.  In other words, which one is easier to get a good mix on .... or is there any difference at all?

Empirically, the XR features are stronger; however, a more flexible compressor or gate does not mean a more usable one in all cases ..... and only a discerning ear can really say one way or the other IMO.

I have found that both mixers have a very nice verb .... different for sure, but nice just the same.  The Qu has (for obvious reasons) a Lexicon sounding verb while the XR/X32 has a more TC M-One XL ish sounding verb (maybe a little less warm) .... to my ears.  I wouldn't personally have an issue with either one, but some people have a strong taste for certain verbs vs others.

The XR has a multi-band compressor which (from what I am told) is a great tool if you know how to use it.  While I know the theory, I haven't ever toyed around with it in practice.  Those that I know that do use it on the XR and X32 consoles say it is quite nice.

At the end of the day, my thoughts are that a digital mixer should:

1)  Allow you to get a good mix with as little effort as possible.

2)  Give you the tools to handle a show easily

I look forward to your feedback!

With over 500.000 sold x32's I'd be surprised if no one had any issues.

There are also a butt-load of x-air mixers sold...

I hope I don't have issues with my Airport Express otherwise getting a different router (WAP) increases the money I am putting into this  set up and I was trying to keep the money down..... My AE has been fantastic for all my other set ups- 2  x QU's and my art net lighting.... :-\

I have found, as did other people, that a switch before the airport express solved all my connection problems

I use a switch after so I can connect both sound and lighting to the AE

Hi Mike,

Preamps with analog control have been around for a long time.
Mackie has the DL32R with digitally controlled preamps.
In my experience, Mackie DL mixers have plenty of headroom.

I've been on digital mixers for more than a decade.
Every app has its plusses and minuses.
While I can work with most anything, for the way I mix, the Mackie app is my first choice.

For me, the new Mackie AUTO feature is brilliant.

Weogo, What is the new Mackie AUTO feature? A cursory Internet search yielded nothing specific.

Hi Corey,

The AUTO feature does this:
Start with ALL faders view.
Bring up any faders you use in your LR master mix.
Switch to AUTO and you will only see the faders you are using.
Repeat for all your monitor mixes, effects sends.

I often double assign channels, with 1~16 used for L/R FOH, 17~32 for monitors.
Tap LR and I see all House channels.
Tap Aux-1 and I might see 17, 18, 22, 23, 25, 30.
Tap Aux-2 and I might see 17, 22, 25, 26, 27.
Etc.

Makes for faster FOH / Monitor mixing on one tablet.

Note, if you bring a channel way down to take it out of the mix but will want it back up soon, don't bring it down t infinity.  It has to up just a little bit to be in the AUTO view.

Apologies to Debbie, this being in her XR18 thread.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

IMO the x32 app is a total disaster. I'd have a better time with SL Remote, which is useable but clunky. The A&H software looks promising. Of everything I've used, there is nothing as user friendly and intuitive as the Master Fader Classic, followed by Master Fader 4.
