Niiice!

My experience is that the employees tend to mirror the attitudes of their boss.
If the boss cared about the sound, he would hire (and pay for) someone that cared about the sound.

Totally agree on this.
It's an uphill battle fighting management if they don't care about your job.

As with every profession: You need good tools to (want to) do a good job.

As for cheap bar owners: Penny wise, pound foolish, as the brits say. I am sure a good enough soundsystem will pay for itself. Be it in rental savings or in band/engineer fees. Not even talking about more customers visiting.

I have talked with the band about this and they have decided that they are going to put it in their rider that they can use their own BE and equipment if the house gear is substandard.

As others have said, it probably better to not get involved.

However, if you do I recommend a slight change to the wording in the rider:

While I agree with the sentiment of ("I have talked with the band about this and they have decided that they are going to put it in their rider that they can use their own BE and equipment if the house gear is substandard"), it is better just to say "We require the use our own BE and equipment. A waiver of this requirement is permitted with prior approval."

Thank you for that, and I agree.

The house sound guy contacted me yesterday and asked if I could come talk with him as he is not happy with how his rig currently sounds.  I'm going to go in and set up and demonstrate some things for him A/B with the house rig and a single SOS over 2 subs.  Seems like a nice guy that was just blowing me off because he thought I was just another punter who thinks he's a sound expert.

Good for you! Sometimes you just have to kill them with kindness and everyone wins.

Why are so many folks quick to jump to that stereotype before they even have reason?

Experience???

Some nights every third person that talks to me is a sound man, just like every other third person was Special Forces or a SEAL. I don't really hold any grudge against the guy. I'd just like to help them out and he seems more than willing to listen to what I have to say on the matter.

I referred him to the forum for educational purposes. He will probably be pissed at the title of this thread though lol.
