QSC PLD Amplifier USB Extention
« on: May 03, 2017, 08:26:08 pm »

Has anybody had luck with a 25+ ft extension USB cable/repeater for the QSC PLD amplifier? (Would be used for level adjustment and level monitoring). Their website lists two working USB to Cat6 dongles but they are $100+. Thanks in advance!

Personally I would get a Raspberry Pi and run the USB to Ethernet bridge.  You can install the software on your PC too.  Basically it extends the USB port over your network.

If you have more than one amp in the rack it's a real lifesaver.

If you have never used Linux before you may need a little help getting the Pi configured but there are lots of how to sites.

I use this one with ordinary cat5 cable.

The Pi thing works, but the latency can be high, depending on your network.  The results are good enough, but not as good as using a real dedicated cable.

Kevin, that's a cool idea.  I used the Pi to monitor a rack of XTI's.  It did what was expected and got it on the network.
