So I picked up a truckload of pipe and drape.  14' panels, heavy velvet style. 


They have some deep creases.  We are thinking of hanging it in the warehouse and hitting it with the steam cleaner.  It also has a bit of "funk" to it from the barn it was in.  No mold, critters rips or tears.   If only 1/2 the load is usable still stole it.


Any advice and the care and feeding greatly appreciated.

Are they flame treated cotton velour?   If so the steam can leach the flame retardancy out and create a white haze on the fabric.

If they are synthetic - a steamer can work, try steaming from the backside

Once cleaned you need to get them treated again for the fire treatment.

These are Rose Brand IFR drapes.  Now that I am fully awake I am going to get the exact fabric number and see what info the manufacturer has.

The company that treats them will also need to provide you with a certificate that they have been treated.

Rose Brand provides quite a lot of info about their velour fabric including some acoustical info.  If you end up with some panels with tears or other boo-boos, you might consider getting with a local upholstery shop and have some table covers made.  Perhaps have them made with a flat fabric or vinyl top and then the front and two ends with partial returns on the back.  Great modesty panels for when you have seated guests on stage.  Maybe also for DJ's
EDIT: Oh yeah, let them hang a few days then take a look, they may air out enough to be good to go and the wrinkles might disappear.
