RCF 712 MK2 Tops vs EV Used Line Array
« on: February 23, 2017, 04:39:57 PM »

Hey guys,

I am new here, long time reader but new member :)

I have a couple of questions and I hope you will help me make the right decisions.

So. We activate in a church hall about 150 square meters in size (10 m x 15 m), 4-5 meters high

We thought making an upgrade on our sound, so we bought 2 RCF 4 pro 8003 for the subs, but for the tops...it is tricky :)

right now we have 2 RCF Art 712 MK 2 tops, they are decent and with a good sound, although a little too much highs for my pleasure :)

The problem with these is that the sound is very directional and linear, not being able to "fill" the entire room, not to mention the hight of the hall  makes it pretty difficult also :)

I found an used line array, EV, 6 line array tops (2 columns of 3) that look really decent
from the specs the seller  gave me, each top has an 8"  horn with 2 drivers of 1"75 , real power 400 W

the deal is we give him the rcf tops and an additional 2000 Eur

this are the line array tops: http://imgur.com/a/dh6dV (the subs in the picture are not included)

My question is: is this an upgrade?

I know that the line array sistem is well balanced and has a higher angle dispersion so the sound will feel more like "filling " all the room, but is the actual quality of the sound better then the rcf tops?

secondly, will these babies manage to fill up the whole hall?

I am sorry for the eventual mistakes, please help me with your opinions.

Thanks

thank you :)

How are you going to suspend them from the ceiling?   Are they including the processor?

That's not enough boxes to have pattern control down very low.

Line arrays, unlike point and shoot boxes, require proper design and integration to operate properly.

The fact you referrer to them as "these babies" indicates you have an emotional attachment to them that could cloud your judgement.

The changes of you messing up the deployment far exceed any possible benefit IMHO
