Hi Folks,

I'm working with some folk-rockers who play Guitars and sing, usually seated, sometimes standing.
They like to have mics out front on shorty stands for the Guitars, and their vocal mic stands behind them, boomed out over their left shoulders.
My old K&M tripod stands do ok for the vocals, but the legs are past tightening any more and they look a bit beat.
Am looking for solid stands that will work without issue, aren't tippy, and will last a long time.

So, buy new K&M 25600 stands that weigh 7.3#, $130,
or
Tama Tour MS456BK stands, at 8.6#, $85?

One other interesting choice I've come across is the Quiklok A514 at 8.5#, $65.
Anybody using them?

(The Tama studio tripods, at 11.8#, are probably a bit more than needed!)

My favorites in terms of value for money and solid construction are the DR Pro Booms. I also own some very very old K&M's and I have replaced the bushings on them - they look really tatty now but still do the job. I have re-painted them a couple of times.

95% of my boom stands are K&M ,  the rest are TAMA, I  like them for long booms and heavy mics as they don't move or tip.   The studio stand will hold a big mic (RE20 / AEA R44) at full boom with no issues.   The only stands I have found that are more solid are the Latch Lake, but they are also the most expensive.

K&M all the way. Get some 210/9 if you're worried about things falling over.

K&M 210/9 are my favorite. I've never had an issue with them.

There's a sticky thread about this in the LAB Lounge; I'm with Debby - I have 12 of the DR Pro 210 stands and love them. They're a full pound heavier than the K&M and go a few inches taller. I have the K&M as well, but find myself using the DR Pro most often.

Hi Folks,

) DR Pro looks like a good budget choice. 
Boom extends to 31". I couldn't find warranty information for this stand.

) The Tama stands all look very good.  33.25" boom.  5yr warranty.

) Am still curious about the dark horse Quiklok A514.  36" boom.  5 yr warranty. 
(About 15 years ago I bought four Quiklok A346 4.2# boom stands and they are still going fine.)

) The K&M goes a couple inches higher than the Tama, and has a longer
37" boom extension which will likely be useful for this application.
5 yr warranty, 10 year parts replacement.

Am going with the K&M 25600.

Debbie, where did you get the K&M replacement bushings?

I have 2 sets of 4 DR stands. One is kept in the boxes for Corp or wedding use. The others could be more than 5 years old and while the finish is beat, they still are my favorites.

Not sure now Weogo, it was a while ago now but I believe it was Parts Express. I bought a whole bunch of parts for other fixes at the same time....

I've had K&M for over 20 years.  They still hold up better IMO.  Parts are readily available from their U.S. distributor, Connolly Music.  I have dealt with John Griffen for the few times I've needed parts(the big elbow bushings in the boom and the odd cross threaded clip mount at the end of a boom being the main things) and his number is 631-925-5525.  That is his direct line, so I'll post their toll free number as well:  800-644-5268.

I also replace the tightening knobs on the elbow with with the dumbbell style, I just find them easier to work.
