CL/QL dynamics1 GUI flaw
« on: February 20, 2017, 11:49:06 AM »

This isn't a bug so much as a design flaw.

In selected channel view, the "x" to close pop up windows (EQ, Inserts, etc.) sits right on top of the ON button for Dynamics1, which by default is a gate with -56dB range!

I had two separate engineers, in two days this weekend, effectively mute a mic by activating the gate while trying to close a window after tweaking something. One was during check, but the other was during a show and it was on a mission critical channel.

The kicker is that on the selected channel view, there's a perfect button sized piece of empty real estate between Dynmacs1 ON and Dynamics2 ON! The force required to activate the touchscreen makes the placement of that x button a liability.

I find it highly improbable that this doesn't happen often elsewhere!

Is this with v4 firmware?

Yes on V4.x, one rev behind current . Loaded up the current 4.04 last night after the dust settled, and looks the same.

This won't fix the design flaw, but rather than using the "X" box to close the window, just tap on the window in the background to switch to it.

Or waste a UDK to 'close window.' Annoying and wasteful, but could potentially be a faster work flow.

What model board are you on? I can't say I've seen that issue on our CL5, but now that I know to look for it... ha.

I'm putting the screws to my rep to light up product mgmt about this, and plan to call buena park in the AM to make this wheel as squeaky as possible.

you can hit almost any physical knob or space on the screen
and or get out on the home button .
cant say I see it as a "flaw" on the cl5

I have had a couple of guest engineers do the exact same thing. One or two during a show as well. I know to press anything but the X but people who are unfamiliar with the desk have a lot of trouble with it.

It's also a good idea to check the touchscreen calibration now and then.  It's in the same bootup menu as the fader calibration and memory initialization functions.
