Thanks everyone for your helpful comments....... I will check her mic out again for anything obvious that might be loose - last time I couldn't get inside, that piece that houses the capsule is commented on!!...
Anyway, she has had enough folks tell her the sad truth about this mic and now it is up to her - till it isn't and I have had enough !

Next time set up the wired mic of your choice and put her wireless on the drum riser or some place it can been seen.  Pack your bags and put them at FOH where she can see them. If she picks up the wireless, pick up your bags and head to the door.  That's what Robert Scovil did with Tom Petty (the song whisperer) and his addiction to the SM-57. Petty got the message, used the Neumann and Scovil is still the Mixerperson.

You may not have Scovi's clout but you can send the same message - your choice of product is making you and me both look bad.  Your choice, but you can look bad without me...

If she wants to be cheap, I bought most of my combo shure ulxp kits on eBay a while back. I did have to bid, but I didn't spend over $350 for a handheld kits and $450 for a handheld and body pack kit. They have proved to be rock solid. I end up using sm87a cartridges for vocalists and sm58 for anything else.

Had to add this...... so after the very recent FCC band spectrum auction, it occurred to me, " What if the dreaded mic is B band?"...... Got all excited and contacted the singer to ask...... No - G Band (high 500)..... darn it!

Next time I work with them, I may offer her a ulxp with either sm58, beta58, or sm87a.....

I bet they will be able to notice the difference

not sure why that is happening. Haven't run sound for them since and won't again till next weekend so I suppose I'll find out if the volume fluctuations still occur....
