Mackie DL1608 heat.
« on: February 04, 2017, 02:08:16 AM »

Hello,

I have picked up a DL1608 second hand for small corporate stuff. Do other users find they get quite hot?

Thanks

Justin

I've heard this from other users, mine doesn't at all and it's one of the first. It generally stays inside an open camera style case which does nothing good for airflow.

Mine sits pretty tight in a case, but only gets warm.

We have a 6 piece band and I’ve used a 1608 for over year now. We use 12 of the channels and yeah mine get pretty hot around the gain knobs.  I was initially concerned and asked a fellow muso who also has the same setup. His gets hot too.

I’ve used this for around 50 gigs without a single issue.

I have never noticed mine being hot and it is about 5 years old. Are you using the original power supply or an after market one? Not sure if that would have this kind of effect or not, just brainstorming.

Never noticed objectionable levels of heat from mine.  Warm yes, hot no.   Always factory power supply.  Ran it in blazing hot sun a few times.  Biggest issue I had was iPads thermaling off.  Always kept the undocked and shaded after that...

Hi Folks,

Mine can get pretty warm outdoors here in the South during summer.

Twice when it was sitting in the sun the docked Ipad shut down.
After a minute in the shade it came back on.
We used a USB-extension cable to move the Ipad out of the sun, as
we were recording directly to the Ipad.

The rack-mount DL32Rs have fans and so far no heat issues.

Thanks and good health,  Weogo

Just chiming in as I've had a DL1608 in regular use since 2012. I run it in all kinds of conditions and the top near the gain knobs does run quite warm but I have never had an issue not even in outdoor Texas summer heat. I do make sure it has good air flow and keep it away from other head sources like direct sunlight.
