dpa single ear usage - advice welcome
« on: January 20, 2017, 12:20:57 PM »

Hi,
Any advice regarding the DPA d:Fine FIO series single-ear mount versus the dual-ear mount? The use would be talent that's seated, no dancing or significant movement. I'm considering the option of adapting some dual ear mount systems to singles, before I do that I'd be interested in anyone's experiences with them.

Thanks,

Buy the dual ears.

Hi,
I have the duals, I'm curious why you say that, though.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I have the D:Fine 4088 single ears that are super secure. If you secure the cable to the talent's shirt you can shake your head back and forth they will stay secure. No need for any tape if the person is seated.

For seated talent, a single ear d:fine should be plenty secure. Cable strain relief becomes much more important with a single-ear. A tug on the cable will pull the mic off of the ear. Using the provided clip, attached to a collar, will alleviate this.

The single ear mount is available as a spare part, you can buy it and transfer the micboom+cable to test it for yourself.

You can slide the headband wire out of the earpiece and turn it into a single ear. The real single ear mount isn't terribly expensive though.
