Wireless Headset Mics
« on: January 17, 2017, 05:18:45 PM »

Its that time of year when we are pricing out wireless rigs for schools problem we have been having is mics come back broken. Shure MX153 / Countryman and Senn. A few years back we tried a cheap copy of a countryman that sounded like crap and were un useable. Anyone else have any luck with a more robust product that still sounds good

Take a look at Point Source Audio.  The CO-6 series has flexible "mini goose neck" booms and seem to hold up exceptionally well.  Not super cheap, but the sound really good, and have a lot of options and accessories.

We had the same problem and at the suggestion of a TD at a big church in town we picked up the Mogan earsets. $100 or so and sound way better than the Pyle and other cheapo we have used. I think they even come with two cables, though we haven't had any break on any of the kiddy musicals in the last 6 months since we started using them.

Bill out mics as consumable items.  IF they want cheap they can get Microphone Madness (I presume that's the cheap mics you consider unusable).  Better quality is more money.  The school can decide how much risk to assume and what level of quality is acceptable.  At the end of the run the school keeps the mic elements/booms and returns the RF package.

Their Embrace mics are getting a lot of traction in the performing arts crowd.  No more taping, not much to break or go wrong, and sounds fantastic.  Really hard to bottom out those mics even with loudest of singers.
