When I first got here I was proud of the new things I was doing and posted pictures.  Now 2 years later here is my opinion:

1 - It opens your work product to public criticism a customer may read
2 - It might let a competitor know about a client
3 - I don't have an explicit release in my contract to use event photo's in the promotion of my business
4 - What I am doing isn't that cool
5 - public ridicule is not fun
6 - nobody cares

Some or all of the above, but the main thing is that PA and monitors sound SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD in pictures!

The one pic I saw posted, was immediately jumped on for speakers hanging from the handles.

That's pretty much my take on it too.  Unless pictures are warranted to help describe a product/venue/situation/etc. such as in the case of my Genie Lift Stage Roof fiasco, I generally keep them to myself.  I'm open to constructive criticism because that helps me learn, though for the reasons you mentioned there are certain things that I'd rather not have a potential client stumble upon when vetting my credentials.  Almost all of us are professionals here too, so I'd imagine most of the pictures we'd share are along the lines of "been there, done that", per your comment number 6.

Lighting ideas can be fun to share sometimes since there's much more of an artistic edge to that versus sound and it's neat to see how others use their tools, and probably some of my coolest work is in the pyrotechnics field (close-prox Class C and the larger Class B).  That said, I don't publicly share the up-close pyro pictures...period.  Not only do I not want someone screaming "Such and such isn't following NFPA ...." even when it is, but there is never a case where someone should try to learn pyro via the internet.

1,2,3-What about all the people who were there? I'm sure it's on FB by now.
4-Sure it is or we wouldn't do it
5-Nobody on PSW would ever criticize your work, would they?  You can borrow my ridicule shield
6-Mom cares
