I got a fourth (Kw181)
« on: January 03, 2017, 07:55:59 PM »

Placement question-I finally got my fourth w181 sub...suggestions on deployment-I run k10s or sx300s on  poles for tops  (2 or 4 depending on room)

Should I stack 2 subs per side or all four on the floor (2 per side)? Bar cover bands mostly---(or all 4 front and center?)

Thx

The bars I work are normally a make shift area, no stage; so I tend to end up with a sub on either side. Yes it results in a power alley, but normally the people in the middle enjoy that😜

Stack 2 KW181 subs vertically, then add a pole long enough so that the bottom of the K10 cabinet is forehead high.  Repeat for other side of stage.  Leave the SX300s at home.

1st gig w/ 4 subs-stacked 2 per side-our sound guy loved it-punchy and full w/o pushing it....

Also there is an art to putting the covers on the qsc kw181 subs---some days they slide right on, sometimes its a struggle-even when aligned correctly---doesn't seem to matter if you have 1 or 2 people...of course at the end of a gig everyone's a little wacko...

Leave the diaper hanging straight.  Drop cover on sub, roll over diaper and secure.

it's hard to imagine a situation where i'd want four 181 subs with just the two k10 tops. Or, that 4 181 subs wouldn't totally outrun two K10 tops.

Imagine having proper headroom. I would rather have too much and baby it than too little and hitting it hard.

I actually ran them with my sx300s last night---I have four sx300s, but only used two last night-worked well in the room we we're in

if you ran the piss out of the K10, you'd have 6-8dB of headroom with just a pair of KW181, and at that point the tops would sound pretty clippy and the subs barely breathing. The "too little" area is in tops. But, the SX300 is probably a bit louder than a K10, depending on the power amp.
