When I attended VerTec training while working at JBL a few years ago we made a field trip to the Gibson Amphitheater (formerly Universal Amphitheater) where they had a rig with 4889 main hangs and 4889 side fills. They reduced interference by running the main hangs in stereo (L – R) and running the side fill hangs in stereo with the channels reversed (R – L). I walked the entire venue while they played various music tracks (the stage was dark that day) and was extremely impressed with the consistency.
I would ask:  If the "idea" is that the Left and Right sends are different material, then what happens to something that is typically panned CENTER?  Such as lead vocal-kick-snare etc?

On the IMPORTANT instruments, the same thing is going to both speakers, so the idea of "having them not interfere" kinda goes out the window-------

The idea is that the offside listeners get some audible sense of "movement" if program material has hard/ping-pong panning. While a seemingly plausible concept on its face, I've never witnessed any particular advantage in application.

And like I said-where the 2 speakers are covering the same area (and they have to, to be able to be able to hear both sides), when something is panned to the center, it will be exhibiting combfiltering or notching in the response.

EAW has an interesting solution for this with the adaptive series.

I've heard it and it's smooth compared to using separate hangs.

I've heard it and it seems to work as represented.

I have found that I hear better with my eyes closed.

By shutting off one sense-the others get stronger-or so it seems.

I forgot who got me started on that but closing my eyes and listening once I am "settled in" on a mix is part of my process.
