Hi Patrick,

This question comes up quite frequently here, and the best answer usually is...it depends.  What exactly do you want to do with your lights that the DMX Operator can't?  I know it's a very limited board, but that will be a place to start.  Also, what's your budget?

If you haven't browsed the forum, read this this and this.

You'll see that the software versus hardware debate comes up often, and we all have our own personal favorite boards.  Good luck!

Hey Patrick, we are using Martin MPC except when the act wants a physical controller.  The software is free and we use and Enttec Dongle that was about $140.  We used it last year at the McLean County Fair for 24 Par 64 fixture, 24 LED fixtures 8 channels each and 4 Chauvet Movers.

I have a guy who set it up for me for next to nothing.

Happy New Year.

Used ADJ/Elation Showdesigner. You can sometimes find them used on Ebay for under $300, new around $ 750.

I got an original ADJ Show Designer for $150 off eBay. Controls movers, can be linked to MIDI,  super easy to program, 512 channels that can be split up according to the needs of each fixture, plenty of chases, etc. the Show Designer 1 and 2 can do more. One of the best values in a lower priced physical board...but most of the laptop solutions these days can do far more, if you have the patience and time to program them.

Just about everything on the market outside the ADJ Operator or Chauvet Obey series would be an upgrade so how much do you want to spend and what is your preference in controllers.. hardware or software?
