WAP needs switch
« on: December 09, 2016, 05:10:45 PM »

I know much of this has been covered before.

I am trying to make a simple WAP for running my Performer remotely.
I'm looking at the Bullet 5 to get oout of the 2.4 range.
Do you need to put a switch in between the console and the WAP, or can you plug it straight in?
I'd love to have fewer parts, as this is only for the remote control.

If I do need a switch, I want one that's certified for Dante, as I will probably go that route in the future.
Suggestions?

You can run without a switch.  However, if you need to add anything hardwired to the network, a switch is advisable.  As well, the bullet requires POE - if you don't want to deal with a POE injector, buy a small POE switch and solve all your problems.

There was other discussion about the Bullet using a nonstandard PoE voltage, I'd just buy the version that includes Ubiquity's injector.

I just bought the M5-Ti. As Brian said, you can use the Bullet without a switch if you ONLY want to connect wireless devices to the mixer. You'll want to set up the access point with a computer the first time, to give it a static IP. Make sure the mixer has an IP that is compatible (same subnet).
