Is the polar pattern of the Freespeak antennas completely omnidirectional?

Not exactly.  Slight null out the connector end and top.
Sorry these plots are not higher rez.

Not sure of the offset reason.  I'll let you know.

this is what I will be using this month in Las Vegas T-Mobile stadium.  16" pizza screens for BBQ.  Placed on the back and mounted so the screen is towards the roof and high enough to be above people's heads.  Less than $6 each incl shipping.  Package of 6 below:

Other tricks are putting antennas in VOMs to shield from the roof, placing under balconies up in corner, etc.

Have you done a coverage survey?  Turn on the advanced menu and take 2 beltpacks.  Listen to on and talk on the other.  Since sidetone is locally produced you cannot know what other BP hear.

Switch one of the BP into survey mode and slowly walk the venue.  in the survey screen all antennas which can be received will display their strength.  The top line is the antenna you are connected to - antenna numbering is offset by 6 so Ant 6 is actually your ant 1.  While you are walking listen for dropouts - they will happen when the signal is about less than 35.  With multiple antennas you should have switched to a better antenna by then.

If you are using more than 5 BP you  must have enough coverage for the maximum users.

Also if an antenna is not getting a good sync it will not hand off to any other antenna.  in the overview tab click on an antenna and verify that sync is good.  Each antenna uses the normal Ethernet pairs as well as a third pair for 422 sync.

So, here's the official answer I got from ClearCom.  Apparently it was some sort of que issue specifically when you're running EHX 8.5 and the system through a matrix frame.  Response below.

The system was trying to accept multiple connections at the same time and depending on the ID of the beltpack (essentially the equivalent of the MAC address of beltpack) the initial logon try can timeout. Power cycling the beltpack re-tires again and will allow it to log on. If you allow the beltpacks to log on one at a time then there is no que for the system to deal with.

This is a corner case where there are a few variables that need to align for the user to experience this. It took us a while to figure out and has now been resolved in the latest version of Eclipse EHX version 8.7 which is now starting to trickle out to Eclipse owners.

Cool.  Still another reason for me to upgrade to 8.7

Kinda glad to know it was an actual 'bug' of sorts.  And even better that it got sorted.
