Wouldn’t this do the same as the Kill-o-watt?

As a practical matter, absolutely yes. The cool thing about the Kill-A-Watt is that it also shows (true) power and power factor, not just current. In addition, it will integrate power to get energy, which can be useful in troubleshooting. The one I have was originally bought by a friend who was trying to determine if his refrigerator was running too much (it was). It's also just a convenient package. On the other hand, it's a cheap consumer product and is limited to 15 A, while your clip-on is good for 400 A at any voltage. --Frank
