Wiring LED's to Light When Subwoofer Hits
« on: July 30, 2016, 03:48:08 PM »

Ok, so when it comes to electrical I am pretty ignorant.  Here's what I have:

2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Extended Cab
500 JL Audio Amplifier
10" JL Audio Subwoofer

The sound system is a little more extensive but that should be the important info.  I am trying to figure out how to wire some LED's, that I can put in multiple locations throughout my vehicle, that will light up when the subwoofer hits.  I don't really want to get a sound sensitive system.  I would like to wire them so that they get the power when the sub gets its power.  Everything I have seen shows people wiring directly from the amplifier to the LED's.  Everything I read about doing that says that it can blow the LED's, damage the amp, damage the sub, and potentially cause a fire.  I saw something about using resistors, but I have NO idea how to figure that out.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
