Why the impulse response won't work for subwoofers
« on: July 07, 2016, 08:05:23 AM »

Hi everybody,

In this video I explain why the delay locator hardly ever locks on to the impulse response of the subwoofers and if it succeeds, it's unlikely it syncs to the very frequencies we're trying to align our main speakers to.

Click here to watch the video.

Sincerely,

Merlijn

Many thanks Merlijn,  Outstanding !  Very clear.

Especially glad to see material on linear-phase filters.

Hey, do you think dual FFTs could be made to allow an operator to choose the freq a delay finder uses....instead of always keying on freq of peak energy?
I realize this wouldn't do anything for the relative lack of low freq information ......but it sure might help in figuring things out..

Hi Mark
If you're working with Smaart just sent a email to rational support with a feature request

Hi Timo,
Yes, Smaart.   That's great,  thanks.

You might take a look at
https://timobeckmangeluid.wordpress.com/2013/05/09/working-on-keynote-files-this-time-its-group-delay/
Mark Wilkinson.

if you change the time of the delay finder the area where the phase trace goes horizontal is the area where smaart is synchronized in time (at least that's the way i understand this stuff......also this is definitely not my idea but to look at group delay this way i'm not that smart:-)

Good stuff Timo, easy to follow along. Every method of looking at phase/group delay/time/freq  helps, me at least :)..
