Klein clamp meter recall
« on: June 21, 2016, 02:12:08 PM »

Saw this posted in my local orange home center yesterday, thought it was worth a mention here.

Klein Tools is recalling a number of clamp meters.

The CL110, CL210 and CL310 and CL110KIT are being recalled due to a fastener that can work itself loose over time, potentially leading to a false reading when measuring voltage. This issue could indicate a reading of zero voltage on energized systems resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off, posing shock, electrocution and burn hazards. This recall involves The CL110, CL210 and CL310 and CL110KIT Digital Clamp Meters with specific date codes.

This can apply to ANY meter at any time.  That is why I do 3 measurements when verifying power is off for life safety situations.
1: Known active source to verify meter is working.
2: Source under test.
3: Known active source again to verify meter has not failed or taken damage since step 1.

This holds true for both direct connect meters and NCVT.

That sequence you've explained is widely known as prove - test - prove.
