help, i'm stuck in 3 way stereo
« on: June 15, 2016, 06:39:27 AM »

I'm running a 3 way stereo PA rig with no actual problems with the set. My problem is that I often play split WAV files (music track on the left channel and vocals on the right) through the system via a DJ controller. What can i change around to get a mono effect where vocal and music are represented through both channels? The DJ controller doesn't have a stereo/mono switch so i can't change it at the source. This is my first time building a PA and I'm sure it's something small and stupid that I'm forgetting.

My Traktor software has a stereo / mono selection in the Preferences / settings menu.
How does the Dj controller connect to your mixer?   A USB devise ending in stereo RCA connectors?  Just "Y" them back to mono with an adaptor.  Or is it USB in to the mixer?  Next step then is to "Y" the mixer outputs.

Never "Y" to combine signals.  Use a proper AV DI with stereo/mono selection.

Can you recommend one?

My go to AV DI is Whirlwind's PCDI http://whirlwindusa.com/catalog/black-boxes-effects-and-dis/direct-boxes/pcdi

Something like this should be in your toolbox for AV work. It solves problems, especially when others bring in their own equipment for you to connect to yours.
