Smaart 8 upgrade
« on: June 09, 2016, 04:44:19 AM »

I saw that the grace period for Smaart 8 upgrade is getting close to the end.

Are there any features in Smaart 8 that really is a "must have"?

I did a demo of it on PL&S and I can't remember a single feature that I "must have" so I'm having a hard time justifying spending $$$ on an upgrade when V7 covers all my needs.

Most of my measurement jobs are 1-3 mics and little more than that.
Thoughts?

The remote control is pretty cool, and I think the interface reworking they did is very good. I don't know if I would say 'must have', it's not quite like the 6-7 upgrade in that sense, but I bought it and I'm happy.

The ability to monitor and log different SPL per input (A/C/LEQ) comes really handy.

Remote control is pretty cool, I forgot about that one.
Anything else?

This is the only opportunity you will ever have to purchase Smaart for this rate, with the entire life cycle of v8 development essentially for free.

I propose a question;

Why upgrade from a 2006 Car Brand X model Y to a 2016 Car Brand X 2016 model Y?

Both are the same model, so what do you actually get by upgrading? You get 10 years of progress and development in the platform and the confidence that your product will be supported for the next 10 years at least. You can absolutely keep the 2006 model around - it will still work for at least a while, though it won't be as efficient or reliable as the current model.

Better said,
Why upgrade from a 2006 Car Brand X model Y to a 2016 Car Brand X 2016 model Y for 1/2 price?
Chris' answer is good and valid.

Multi window support is great and tabs work really well.

Glad I saw this post. Today was the last day to upgrade for only $249. Tomorrow it goes up to $499.

I just did a hurry up purchase. I have been waiting on a payment from something else and almost waited too long.
