One loudspeaker for top vocal reproduction
« on: June 02, 2016, 03:43:09 PM »

Application -

A single flown loudspeaker for a small space, vocals only.  60 degrees can work, so can 90.

Powered or unpowered, doesn't have to get very loud at all.

What would your choice be?  No budget worries.

I'm always impressed when a group uses my rooms SH96HO's for meetings. Spoken word is very clear and intelligible throughout the room and I've never had feedback. I'd pick a Danley product if budget wasn't an issue. SM96 or SM60F?

What excellent suggestions for Doug's stated requirements.

Not.

I would probably look at the Meyer UPA-1P, the Danley SM100, and based on recent experience the Martin CDD10.

The Danley SH-Micro is an intriguing option as well, but won't have quite the output of the others. But then again that wasn't a requirement...

Micro doesn't have enough output, need to get over keys and bass and occasional jazzy guitar.

Even Yamaha powered with FIR might be a contender, on the lower end of things.

SLS Audio 112RT-I-PXO has a ribbon hi-frequency unit. The ribbon does wonders for vocals. Can get the bi-ampable or with crossover.

Does the speaker have to be physically small and unobtrusive? If so:

Fulcrum CX896.

Some others to consider: EAW JF10, EV Xi-1082, UPJ-1P, D&B Y

EDIT: If it can be a bit larger:

EV Xi-1122, JBL F12, (used) D&B Q, Meyer UPA or UPQ

Good one, I was also thinking of Alcons.  Hopefully some offshore members will have ideas.

I also thought about Fulcrum Acoustic.

This will be a small, accurate loudspeaker which will not be hidden.   Big, big bonus for published independent measurements although I wouldn't select one without first listening.  Unless of course I have already heard it.

I thought this was a hypothetical, or I would have asked a lot more questions lol.

Are you going to be at infocomm?  You should have plenty opportunity to listen and decide there.
