Speaker Pole Adapter
« on: May 21, 2016, 10:29:59 pm »

I have a speaker pole with a 20mm threaded end that I would like to use with a subwoofer that has a non threaded pole cup.
I don't want to change out the pole cup in the sub. I would like to find an adapter that threads onto the 20mm speaker pole so that it will slip into the pole cup.
I found that the Gator ID speaker pole comes with such an adapter but I don't want to buy an $80 speaker pole just to get the adapter.
Does anyone know where I can buy such an adapter?

Won't that pole already fit into a non threaded pole cup as is? If you are worried about damaging the threads, maybe put a 20mm hex nut over the threads before inserting.

Or....can you remove the set screw and get rid of the threaded projection altogether (provided you don't need it for other applications)?

It is an easy-enough fabrication project for a machine shop (even one at a vo-tech or high school), but would be quite expensive to just make a pair.  An M20 tap is not something that an ordinary hardware store is going to have on hand.

Changing out the pole cups on your speakers might be the fastest and cheapest solution.

I should clarify. The sub pole is the height adjustable type, not a single length of pole with the same diameter from top to bottom.
The pole is too large to fit in the cup. The adapter is a smaller diameter which allows the pole to be inserted into the cup.
See the attached photo of the Gator ID with the adapter installed on the 20mm thread.
I have an email sent to Gator to see if they will sell just the adapters.
