Freespeak II Base2
« on: April 21, 2016, 03:36:58 PM »

So it looks like Clearcom launched a new base for Freespeak at NAB, but there isn't much information beyond the press release. Seems like a redesign to bring it more inline with functionality of Helixnet. Did anyone get to see it at the show or otherwise?

Programming is like HelixNet V3 programming via browser.  Note that the antenna outs support SFP for fiber antennas (not quite available yet).

FreeSpeak II new BASE
•             Supports 25 wireless beltpacks (up from 20)
•             Improved 2-wire PL connectivity (FIR based auto nulling)
•             4 PL ports (up from 2)
•             Selectable powered PL ports supporting 5 ClearCom beltpacks on each line, including call signaling (power indicator LED by each XLR)
•             Direct RTS TW dual channel 2 Wire connection, including call signaling
•             4 Wire port pinout can be reversed from the front panel or CCM browser windows
•             4 high contrast OLED front panel displays with easy-to-use waterfall menus as on HelixNet
•             Front panel “Main Station Mode” with Talk, Level and Call to any of 4 destinations (any channel/group/direct or a Reply key)
•             Front panel “Diagnostics Mode” shows diagnostics for all antennas and beltpacks
•             CCM browser based configuration utility with real time monitoring, assignments and configuration
•             NO Offline programming - must be connected to a Base
•             Easy USB Beltpack to Base registration as well as over the air registration
•             Future Fiber to Splitter/Transceiver connection
•             DECT sync I/O for co-located bases and Eclipse frames.
•             Redundant 12V DC power option
•             5 pin headset connection option!!
•             12 internal party lines and 12 internal Groups just like HelixNet

Argh that's partially annoying given we just bought a Freespeak ii base station with 5 packs 2 weeks ago! Oh well - we use 4wires only as we interface with Riedel, and the new "main station" mode probably wouldn't get used all that much. The SFP for antennae look great though, and I'd love to know if the CCM programming mode will be released in new firmware for the original FSii base?

So there isn't an option (yet?) to directly connect the base to a Helixnet LAN and pick off any of the Helixnet channels for the FSII beltpacks?

Obviously it will eventually be part of the HelixNet systems but not quite yet.

Party lines and Groups are now 12, like Helixnet.

Worst part is the HelixNet programming and now FreespeakII2 is -- only online programming.

That's disappointing.

Yes, I agree.  However once you program it it can be saved and loaded in a future event.  I will be creating a "standard file" which probably will work for 90% of events and put it here.  Just as a starting point.

I have just had a start on the new FSII version 2 base and it has all the features we wanted, mentioned above plus:

1.  Every button has separate latchable/momentary settings.  Now a bp can have non latchable Production and latchable Audio channels.

2.  Taping the menu button switches the volume controls from AB to CD.  Normally the CD are dimmed.  After 30 sec it reverts back to AB volumes.

3. Rolls are now specific to each beltpack and can only be assigned once so in effect there are no more rolls.

4.  The overview screen shows battery life and what antennas are being used in a matrix.  1.9 GHz are in green and 2.4GHz are in blue.

5.  Antennas can be named, like SR, USC, FOH

6. Antenna status is now not 10 LED but 1 that goes from green to yellow to indicate an error.  Look at the software to see what happened.  Same with a BP LED - if one has low battery the LED goes yellow.

7.  Antenna Sync status is now shown.  In the past an antenna would work but if the sync was down due to a bad cable beltpacks would not roam.

8.  4 wire connections can be switched from Matrix wiring to station wiring.

I will have a video soon to add to this post.
