Assistance solicited. Sub-Top measurement.
« on: March 16, 2016, 01:11:15 PM »

Hello all!

Getting my grip on sub-top alignment. Copy from the rational forums post. Thank for your time!

I understand that phase traces for sub measurements will often result in a U-trace. Mostly I have measured subs with the phase tracking top-bottom along the phase graph, and would align a similar phase trace of the full range speakers along it.

Here I have a U-shape trace, and am a bit stumped. Kindly advise.

The measurement was indoors in a large space. Coherence was not great, but I believe i got reasonable results. Had to use impulse to lock a delay on the sub measurement.

Image attached. Thank you all for your time.

Regards,
Sidhu

Reading from this post :
http://forums.prosoundweb.com/index.php?topic=139234.0

Suggested to get crossover point (-6db @ 80hz in my case) to the 0degrees point by adjusting Smaart delay. In my measurement this is @ -70*

It looks a little bit like you're synchronizing first at the top and after that muting the tops un-muting the subs and then synchronizing to the subs.
I would expect the phase trace of the sub to go down under a angle but the phase goes horizontal before going up worth.

You first put the whole system on (tops+subs) synchronize smaart with the delay finder and after that take solo measurements of the solo bands (mid highs solo and sub solo) without synchronizing again.
You want to combine the 2 so do not re-synchronize on solo bands

Thank you Timo!
You are correct. I am measuring individually.

ill consider that and measure again. It makes sense.
ive also had some excellent education over at the Rational forums.

(Video sound can be routed back to smaart or other programs but data compression/audio is a bitch specially online)
